Founded in 2003, the Cameroon Goodwill Association of Montreal (popularly known as “Goodwill”) is a social organization that brings together a broad section of Anglophones of the Cameroonian community in Montreal. From its humble beginnings with 13 members, Goodwill has grown to more than 100 active members today and, together with spouses and children, it constitutes a community of about 200.
Goodwill is known for its openness. As a result, although it is an Anglophone association, it has been open to non Francophone Cameroonians who now make up about 10 % of its membership.
The goals of the Association are to promote solidarity and socio-economic and cultural values among its members. We do organize monthly meetings and other activities which we bring together our children and friends to share our tradition and culture through our food and music. In addition, we provide moral and financial support to members during joyful events (births, marriages) and sad events (bereavements).
Some of the other activities we organize are: picnics, fund raising parties, children's Christmas party, as well as our end-of-year party.
The Goodwill soccer team known as Goodwill FC is our latest undertaking. Members keep fit through weekly training sessions and the aim is to organize matches against other teams in Montreal and elsewhere. If you would like to arrange a match against the Goodwill FC, e-mail the team manager today.
The Association is managed by a nine-member executive headed by a president who is elected to a one-year term, renewable once.
New members are admitted to the Association four times a year in January, April, July and October. However, a new member has to be introduced by an existing member. An application form can be downloaded in the Documents section.
The site contains extensive photo galleries that capture our various activities for posterity. While a few sections of the site (phone book, by-laws) are password protected and thus reserved exclusively for members, other sections provide extensive information about our activities. The site contains an extensive photo album which captures our various activities for posterity, a detailed schedule of our meetings, a section for news and events involving individual members and the association in general, useful documents to facilitate the management of the association, as well as links to other sites about Cameroon and Cameroonians.
